Last week, on March 10, ACTeon and ISMAR-CNR (Italy) organized the online workshop “Which role for ecosystem service valuation in supporting Maritime Spatial Planning?”. The workshop was organized in the context of a study launched by the European Commission in 2019 and led by the Milieu-ACTeon consortium. The aim of the workshop was to address the role that ecosystem services assessment and valuation can have in supporting MSP processes, with a focus on the Mediterranean Sea basin and the input from international experiences.
Around 50 participants (government officers from the European to local scales, MSP planners, scholars, NGO representatives…) took part in the event. The workshop’s objective was to fill the gaps on the practical application of the Ecosystem Based Approach in the framework of the MSP directive 2014/89/EU.
